On July 30, 27th Special Operations Medical Support Squadron journeyed to the Women’s Medical Center in Clovis to provide a team-building effective communication exercise.

Capt. Melissa Petak, a Medical Support Squadron flight commander, Tammy Adkins, information technologist, and Collette Delgado, community relations officer were invited by Kathy Teston, WMC Administrator to brief 32 employees on enhanced effective communications within a patient-centric environment.

“It was a great opportunity for us to work with our civilian partners and strengthen a relationship that provides care for over 3,000 of our military and family members,” said Petak.

The Women’s Medical Center is an obstetrics and gynecology office located across the street from Plains Regional Medical Center. As Cannon continues to experience growth it is important for the medical group to foster positive relationships with private sector providers and offer a seamless transition of care when necessary.

At the end of the briefing, Petak opened the floor to questions. “What can we do to better support the spouses that come into our office?” asked one individual. “The first step is ‘understanding’ understanding,” said Petak. “Listen to their concerns and contact the base clinic when necessary to ensure the TRICARE is meeting their needs.”

Petak concluded by saying, “We are vessels of communication and network with others to share information so that we improve the service we provide.”

The WMC also donated funds to the deployed spouses club on base.
