Woman cited in connection with daughter’s death
A 39-year-old Texico woman whose 14-year-old daughter was thrown from a pickup truck and killed July 21 has been cited in connection with the death.
Undersheriff Wesley Waller said Christine Uballe was cited for driving without a license, violating child passenger restraint requirements and driving with an unsecured load in connection with her daughter’s death.
Casandra Garza died after she was thrown from the back of the pickup truck Uballe was driving along State Road 523 (East 21st Street) between Curry roads E and D.
Garza was holding down mattresses while riding in the bed of a half-ton 2002 Chevrolet pickup, Waller said.
Waller said Uballe was arrested last week on a warrant from Texas for absconding from parole in an unrelated case and is in jail on charges of being a fugitive from justice.
She is being held in Curry County, pending extradition to Texas, he said.
