The 87th Annual State 4-H Conference will be held July 12-16 at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces. During the week-long event, more than 250 4-H members from across the state will gather for contests, workshops, evening sessions, and awards ceremonies. This year’s theme is “4-Wheel Drive with 4-H.”

Participants from Roosevelt County will be competing in livestock, dairy, horticulture, land, and wildlife judging, favorite food presentations and the talent show. Those 4-H members who will be competing at the state conference are Reavis Best, Stefanie Neuhaus, Leven Bergsieker, Jasi Roberts, Jalayna Roberts, Kyle Levacy, Garrett Lee, Justus Criswell, Gowan Hays and Renee Gantert.

Connie Moyers, Extension Home Economist, Melanie Gutierrez, Extension 4-H Agent, and Sheila Hays will accompany the 4-H members to the state conference.

The winners of the contest will receive their awards during the awards sessions on Wednesday evening and Thursday afternoon.

On Thursday evening, a dinner and concert will be held at Dickerson’s Event Center. The keynote speaker is entrepreneur and athlete Keith Davis, who will present a program Monday evening about youth reaching their full potential both in and out of the classroom.

The NMSU 4-H program is dedicated to enabling youth to become productive, well-informed, self-reliant and responsible adults. 4-H membership is open to all youth under the age of 19.
