Press release: City airport receives another $2 million for runway upgrades

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Tom Udall today announced that airports in Carlsbad, Clovis, Los Alamos and Roswell will receive $6.41 million for runway rehabilitation, including the installation of new perimeter fencing and runway and taxiway markings.
“These airports provide dependable and safe air travel for the people of New Mexico and tourists alike,” said Udall, a member of the Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee. “These investments will improve the safety and conditions of our state airports, while also stimulating the local economies by creating jobs within the community.”
The funding, distributed through the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Aviation Administration, includes an additional $2 million for a runway extension project at the Clovis Municipal Airport. The extension is required to bring the runway length up to Federal Aviation Administration standards. Just last week Udall announced that the Clovis Airport would be receiving $4 million in funding, bringing the total amount of federal funding for this project to $6 million.
