June 21, 1945: Pvt. Edward E. Estep was visiting family in Rogers after his rescue from a German Army camp. Estep told The Portales Daily News reported Estep was a prisoner for 43 days. “He got along with the Germans pretty well ... but food was scarce,” the newspaper reported.
