Veteran editor joins Freedom board

Freedom Communications Inc. announced Thursday that Larry Kramer, a former newspaperman and founder of the online financial website MarketWatch, was elected to the board of directors. Freedom owns the Clovis News Journal, Portales News-Tribune and Quay County Sun.

“Larry has extensive experience in creating and fostering digital media operations for traditional media companies, and we look forward to his contribution as a member of Freedom’s board of directors,” said James Dunning, Jr., board chairman. “We believe Larry’s insights and experience will be very valuable in helping to guide Freedom in the years ahead.”

Kramer has been in journalism more than 20 years. He worked as a reporter and rose to editor positions at several papers including the San Francisco Examiner, The Washington Post and the Trenton Times in New Jersey.

In the 1990s, he started MarketWatch, which he sold to Dow Jones & Co. in 2004 for more than $500 million.
