Their view: Angel theft saddens Portales woman
Bess Jones of Portales said she’s not angry, just hurt by the recent theft of a small guardian angel statue from her husband’s gravesite.
“It had a beautiful expression, just looking down on him, taking care of him,” she said. “It gave me a lot of comfort.”
She did not call police, but wanted to share her thoughts publicly with those responsible for the angel’s disappearance.
She wrote:
“To the person who lifted the guardian angel from the gravestone of my husband, Rannell Jones, in the United Daughters of the Confederacy Circle of the Portales cemetery:
“I know you had a greater need than I did and I pray that it blesses you as it has our family the last 4 1/2 years.”
