Wednesday morning briefing: Free fishing and blood needed

Good morning and welcome to Freedom New Mexico’s Wednesday briefing.

Free fishing

Saturday is not only National Fishing Day, it’s free fishing day across New Mexico.

The state game commission is granting all anglers, residents and non-residents a day of free fishing on public waters.

On this special day, no one needs a license or stamp, although bag limits and all other fishing rules apply.

Blood drive

United Blood Services is holding a blood drive in conjunction with an event to raise money for medical expenses of Portales native Jerad LaRue.

The blood drive is set for 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the donor coach at Creighton's Town and Country, 1621 S. Ave. D.

Walk-ins are welcome.

Appointments: 806-797-6804.

LaRue has aplastic anemia, which is bone marrow failure.
