This weekend, crowds will have an opportunity to see a rodeo done ranch-style.

Joe Rhodes said ranch rodeos are unique from other rodeos in that they are done the way, “the old time ranch cowboys did.”

“We got some awful good boys riding,” he said. It’s a lot different from a regular rodeo.”

Rhodes, owner of Joe’s Boot Shop, is sponsoring the Curry County Ranch Rodeo, which will be held Saturday at the Curry County Mounted Patrol Arena.

Competitors are coming to Clovis from within the state and from locations such as Colorado, Texas and Oklahoma.

An estimated 75 to 90 cowboys split into 15 teams are expected to compete in ranch branding, ranch penning, wild cow milking and bronc riding, he said.

And there will be activities for children too such as stick horse riding and muttin’ bustin’.

“We’re hoping it will be real good and next year they can get it sanctioned with the World Ranch Rodeo,” he said.

Children’s events will begin at 9 a.m. and adult competitions at 1 p.m. with the event expected to last until about 7 p.m. Rhodes said there will also be concessions and vendor booths.

Tickets are available at Joe’s Boot Shop for $5. Information: 763-3764.
