Schools finishing with a flurry

It is the end of the school year, and you would think things were winding down, but I found the opposite to be true.

I have attended so many events at our schools, I've hardly had time to breathe.

Every event has been absolutely fantastic, and I have to tell you about a few of them.

The Arts Academy had an amazing instrumental performance at Marshall. If you closed your eyes and listened you would think the performers were much older than elementary school students.

Teachers and students put on a show that left everyone feeling refreshed and proud. Just one more reason Clovis was selected as a “Best Community for Music Education.”

However, they did not stop there. A few days later, they had a poetry contest where students had selected and studied a poem to perform in front of their entire student body. What great performances.

Each year, Zia Elementary School has a Career Day.

As I entered the school, it was like a convention of business leaders. There were business owners, senior managers, educators, and professionals from practically all walks of life.

It was hard to tell who was enjoying this day more … the students or the adults. Guaranteed everyone learned something new that day.

Sandia has been educating their students on conservation and solar energy throughout the school year. And for two days, it was really sweet as they not only put together a portable solar oven, but they also baked cookies in one. What a yummy class that was.

La Casita had their own sweet event. This was one was provided by the Eagles organization, who hosted a celebrate reading party.

Throughout the school year, teachers encouraged sixth-grade students to read. The students received a ticket that was put into a drawing for prizes.

I talked to the students and they said: “Everything about this is really cool!”

Just yesterday, Los Ninos had their Success Carnival that recognizes pre-schoolers who graduated, but everyone in the school was invited. And, thanks to the many different businesses that donated food and prizes; and base personnel and the fire department who donated their time and supplies, everyone was celebrating.

These are just a few of the wonderful events happening at our schools.

I've said it before, but it is worth repeating: Clovis is a wonderful community whose schools, businesses, churches and citizens come together to provide great opportunities for our students.
