On April 22-23, seven members of the Roosevelt County Homemakers Clubs traveled to Alamogordo for the District IV meeting of Extension Association of New Mexico.
The members from Roosevelt County were Mary Danforth, Barbara Miller, Dottie Lee, Dorothy Gresham, Judy Terry, LaVerne Scheller, and Connie Moyers.
Thursday afternoon was registration and the Cultural Arts items were entered and judged.
On Thursday evening, there were refreshments, games, and visitation.
After a business meeting on Friday morning there was a very informative program. “NRA’s Refuse to Be a Victim” was presented by Richard Barbaras, chief executive officer of Zia Therapy Center, Inc.
The Cultural Arts Show had 182 entries from Lincoln, Otero, and Roosevelt counties. Roosevelt County had 109 of those entries.
There were 15 Best of Lots. Roosevelt County had eight Best of Lots.
Joann Blakey had a 3-D picture getting the Judges Choice Award.
Dottie Lee had an afghan that received the Viewer’s Choice Award.
Special guests attending were Dr. Jon Boren, director of cooperative extension, New Mexico State University; Bruce Hinrichs, Eastern District director and associate director of Cooperative Extension; and Charlie Siepel, Southwest District director.
Lunch was served by and to benefit Operation Soldier Smiles, a community service project conducted by Otero Co. 4-H member Maggie Fazenbaker and her family.
