The 27th Special Operations Wing plans to showcase its missions and aircraft during an open house 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Cannon Air Force Base.
The event is free and open to the public.
It will feature 27th SOW and Air Force Special Operations Command personnel, units and static aircraft displays.
The 27th SOW is the host unit at Cannon and was activated on Oct. 1, 2007. The unit is the newest active-duty wing of AFSOC. The 27th SOW’s primary mission is unconventional warfare, including counter-terrorism, combat search and rescue, personnel recovery, psychological operations, deep battlefield resupply, interdiction and close air support.
Aircraft that will be on display include the AC-130H Gunship, MC-130W Combat Spear, MC-130H Talon II, CV-22 Osprey, MQ-1 Predator, UH-1 Huey, HH-60 Pave Hawk and the MQ-9 Reaper.
Informational booths from AFSOC squadrons, organizations, Navy SEALs and recruiters from all branches of the services will be on the flightline.
Food and beverages will be available for purchase.
Event parking will be at Doc Stewart Park in Chavez West base housing. All visitors must pass through security and will be transported on buses to the flightline.
Alcohol, glass containers, bicycles, skateboards, coolers, backpacks, large bags, camera bags and chairs, excluding baby items, will not be allowed on base during the open house.
It is recommended that base housing residents use the Portales Gate when arriving or leaving base during the event.
