Yucca and Marshall Middle School choirs received awards at the 2010 Southeast New Mexico Music Educators Association Solo and Ensemble Festival.
The festival was held Feb. 13 at Eastern New Mexico University.
Thirty-eight students from Yucca sang solos. Of those, 32 received superior ratings, seven received superior-plus and six received excellent.
Of the seventeen Yucca ensembles performing, 11 received superior ratings, one received superior-plus and six received excellent.
Yucca students Yvonne Sisneros, Justine Vistine and Mari Garcia were named outstanding soloists at the festival. One ensemble was also named outstanding ensemble.
Twenty-nine students from Marshall sang solos and 24 received superior ratings, eight received superior plus and five received excellent.
Ten ensembles from Marshall performed. Eight ensembles received superior ratings, two received superior plus and two received excellent.
