Dog deaths under investigation

The Curry County Sheriff’s Office is investigating half a dozen dog deaths in a northwest Clovis neighborhood.

Since Feb. 2, six dogs residing in the area surrounding Tall Grass Lane have died, Undersheriff Wesley Waller said.

Waller said at this time investigators do not have any evidence to suggest the animals were intentionally poisoned.

“The animals had apparently been loose at the time they were exposed to an unknown toxin,” he said.

Waller said it is unknown how or where the animals were exposed to the toxin or what the toxin is.

“To prevent this in the future, we would caution residents to keep their animals contained within their property,” he said.

By county ordinance, it is unlawful for owned animals to be allowed to run at large.
