The State Bar of New Mexico is accepting entries from high school juniors and seniors from around the state for its annual essay contest.
This year’s assignment is entitled “The ‘Facts,’” and deals with students’ use of social media and First Amendment rights. Essays expressing personal points of view will be accepted until Mar. 9.
Essays must contain 1,000–1,500 words and will be judged by a panel of judges, lawyers, State Bar staff and educators.
The law firm of Modrall, Sperling, Roehl, Harris & Sisk PA is sponsoring cash awards of $1,000 for first place, $500 for second and $250 for third. Winners will receive their awards at the annual Albuquerque Bar Association Law Day Luncheon in May.
Students may obtain information on the topic and an entry form through their high school language arts or social studies teachers or online at http://www.nmbar.org/Public/HSEssay.html.
