Press release: Seidenwurm tenders resignation effective June 30

Dr. Rhonda Seidenwurm, Superintendent of Clovis Municipal Schools, has tendered her resignation to the Board of Education effective June 30, 2010.

The Board wishes to recognize the outstanding accomplishments and difficult situations Dr. Seidenwurm has led the district through. She came to Clovis just as the Base Realignment & Closure (BRAC) Commission was attempting to close Cannon AFB.

Through a full year of uncertainty regarding Cannon AFB, the district weathered the transition to a new mission and kept its focus on children. The open lines of communication with Air Force personnel assisted the administration to be prepared for additional students. Under her leadership, we have realigned several campuses to better meet the academic and social needs of our youth.

As weaknesses in the educational delivery system were recognized, we sought the most up-to-date data and research to provide programs that give our students the best possible educational and career opportunities.

The growing dual credit enrollment program with Clovis Community College allows high school students the opportunity to get an early start in post secondary studies.

Thanks to Dr. Seidenwurm’s efforts, we now have an Education Foundation whose two-fold mission brings dollars into classrooms for special projects and gives alumni and supporters of Clovis Schools an avenue to support those programs.

Each of these major undertakings was accomplished with much input from our community.

Being transparent in the decision-making process was high on Dr. Seidenwurm’s priority list and she was very diligent to communicate during each phase of a new project.

We are indebted to Dr. Seidenwurm for her sensitivity, tenacity, and vision during her five years in Clovis. Her legacy will live long after she leaves our community. We will miss the spunky red head who loved to take on a challenge and infused her enthusiasm into our educational system.
