Fruitful Spirit Ministries has been saved.

The non-profit reduced-price grocery program was on the verge of closing its doors when the Matt 25 Hope Center stepped in.

Center Executive Director Steve Reshetar said a proposal to take over the program was brought in front of the board of directors on Monday.

“They were excited about it. They really believe it is very important to the community to keep it going. The program fits our mission,” he said.

Reshetar said the center will run the program at first to determine if it can run as its own entity. He said the program helps a group of people who don’t qualify for most assistance programs.

“There are people who are working who are really struggling. This gives them a dignified way to stretch their budget,” he said. “It’s a group that there’s not programming to help but they need the help.”

Reshetar said the program allows people to buy a box of groceries for a fraction of the cost of the items in it each month.

Reshetar said warehouse and distribution for the program would be housed at the center. He said he hopes to create a space that will fit the programs needs, including a loading dock area.

Administrative Assistant Terry Osborne at the center has been placed in charge of the program. She said she’s excited.

“We’re planning basically just to continue the project. We hope to grow the ministry some. We think the in-town location will better facilitate distribution,” Osborne said.

She said the program is a necessity for many families in Clovis.

“The program is helping some families who have to work on some extremely tight food budgets. This helps them stretch that food dollar,” she said.
