In a room filled with six Christmas trees, some children will have their only Christmas.
The Lighthouse Mission will host its annual Children’s Christmas Party Saturday.
Director Jerri Gomez said the party provides presents to children who would otherwise not have any. The party includes, presents for children ages newborn to 14 years old, live Christmas carols, homemade cookies, gift bags, hot chocolate, pizza and a petting zoo.
Gomez said last year’s party served 700 children. The mission is gearing up to serve more this year.
Gomez said the annual party doesn’t come out of the mission’s operational budget.
“This is only made possible by the community donating gifts and treats,” she said. “We could never do something like this with out the compassion and generosity of the community. That’s how we can help children who are less fortunate.”
Gomez said the party gives hope to people at a difficult time for some.
“It’s brings happiness and a glimmer of brightness to families that would otherwise be in depression,” she said.
“It’s a fun-filled day for the children just to enjoy laughter,” Gomez said.
The mission continues to collect donations for the party. Gomez said they are short on cologne sets for teenage girls and boys, individually wrapped candy and presents for boys and girls ages 10-12.
Donations can be dropped off at the Mission during business hours at 407 L Casillas Blvd.
