Well, it may never have actually existed. But West Texas A & M will remember a bygone era (on a different continent) Saturday with its annual Renaissance Feast.
Festivities begin with traditional wassail — a warm spiced drink — at 6:45 p.m. Then, let the feast begin.
It’s $25 a person at the Alumni Banquet Facility.
Did you know?
The Portales Fire Department has 24 members, three pumper trucks, one pumper rescue vehicle, one tanker, one ladder tower and one brush truck.
The department was established in 1909, and ambulance service was combined with the department in 1974.
Because the department's Insurance Service Organization is 4 — unusually low for a community the size of
Portales — city residents save money on insurance.
Fifty years ago:
Clovis Lions Club members secured a wrecked automobile and displayed it at the port of entry in Texico in an effort to remind motorists to focus on highway safety.
A photo of the car appeared on the front page of the Clovis News-Journal.
