For $1, according to the Portales News-Tribune, members of the Portales High School Student Council would neatly stencil street numbers on the curb in front of houses. The students planned to cover the town Saturday, and money raised in the activity was to all go to the Cancer Society’s campaign. Local dealers were donating paint and equipment.
