Zias' Mayo Otis honored

PORTALES — Eastern New Mexico University outfielder Alex Mayo Otis has received a plaque from the NCAA recognizing her as the toughest hitter to strike out in Division II softball during the 2009 season.

Mayo Otis, from Phoenix, struck out just twice in 160 at-bats over 47 games. She tied for the lead in that category with Trisha Thurston of West Virginia Wesleyan.

In three seasons at ENMU, Mayo Otis has batted .394 and also has led the Zias in games played (159), at-bats (507), runs (111), hits (200), doubles (41), triples (9) and total bases (292). She has posted the team’s second-highest slugging percentage and tied for third-most home runs (11) over that span.
