Meetings watch: $19k in lodgers taxes distributed

The Clovis city commission met Thursday at the Clovis-Carver Public Library.

Discussion items included:

• Presentation of a proclamation — Aug. 4 as National Night Out. Mike Ingram of the Clovis Police Department said the event, scheduled for 6-9 p.m. at Greene Acres Park, is intended to heighten crime prevention awareness and generate community support for anti-crime programs. Ingram said Chief Steve Sanders had success with National Night Out events when he worked in Northglenn, Colo.

• Approval of disbursement of Lodger’s Tax Funds to Desert Cruzers ($5,000), the Clovis Softball Association ($7,000), Clovis MainStreet ($2,000) and the Clovis/Curry County Chamber of Commerce ($5,000).

• Reaching an agreement with Fred Frazier of Texico, who owns property adjacent to the west boundary of the Clovis Municipal Airport. The city received $2,692 for the land boundaries to be redrawn as currently existing fence lines.

• Granting permission to the Clovis Fire Department to work various street intersections Aug. 14-16 and Aug. 21-23 for its “Fill the Boot” fund-raiser drive for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
