Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
The 26th Annual Plateau Wireless Custom Classic slowpitch softball tournament starts today.
This year’s classic has 126 teams converging on Clovis for the weekend-long event at the Guy Leeder Softball Complex and Bob Spencer Field.
USSSA Area Director Roger Jackson said the tournament is a great economic boost for Clovis because of the different people coming from far off to play in the classic.
“Most of the teams play in leagues in their hometowns,” Jackson said. “They know that this is a quality tournament and it fills up because they know we put on a good show for them.”
Jackson said the teams like the tournament because of the competition.
The tournament will be hosting teams from Texas, Oklahoma, and parts of New Mexico for the double-elimination tournament.
The first pitch is 7 p.m. today and games continue through Sunday.
