City Commission meeting set for Thursday

Freedom New Mexico

Clovis city commission members are expected to unanimously approve a resolution against closing the post office at 5th and Gidding.

Commissioners meet 5:15 p.m., today at the Clovis-Carver Public Library.

The facility is thought to be targeted for closing as the U.S. Postal Service tries to find ways to cut costs.

The commission resolution states businesses located in the vicinity of the post office would be harmed if it shuts down.

In other business, commissioners will be asked to approve a $542,000 payment to Burlington Northern Santa Fe to reimburse the railroad for the demolition of the Hull Street overpass.

The overpass was torn down in November, 2008.
