Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
The newly created Clovis Municipal Schools’ Local Labor Management Board met Friday to focus on naming a third member to the board.
The first meeting, May 25, served as an orientation for the board’s two members, G.C. Ross and Larry Cocker.
Ross and Cocker each had two nominations for the third board seat.
They decided each of them would nominate one and let the board of education make the final choice.
Ross nominated Clovis resident Lonnie Leslie, citing his experience as a teacher and former member of National Educators Association Clovis.
Cocker nominated Clovis resident John Olivares, who retired from Cannon Air Force Base in 2008 and has a child in the Clovis schools system.
The school board will discuss the matter at its next meeting at 5:30 p.m. June 23.
