ODESSA, Texas — Senior centerfielder Laura Thompson and freshman shortstop Melissa Williams went a combined 6-for-7, and the Eastern New Mexico University softball team rallied from a 2-0 first-inning deficit to claim a 3-2 win Wednesday in the second game of a doubleheader with University of Texas-Permian Basin.
The Falcons (11-32) had won nine of their previous 11 entering the nightcap, including a 1-0 win in the opener.
Thompson hit an RBI double in the top of the sixth to give the Zias (20-18) their first lead, and third baseman Cara Brydle snagged a fly ball to start a 5-3 double play to hold off the Falcons in the sixth.
Kimberly Crouse picked up the win, with two runs allowed on eight hits.
