Feds settle Clovis nursing home lawsuit

The Associated Press

The owners of a now-defunct Clovis nursing home have agreed to pay more than $1.2 million to settle a false claims lawsuit.

The U.S. Justice Department on Friday announced the settlement with Dr. Ali Ghaffari Sr., the medical director of the Buena Vista Retirement Center, and Linda Rose Ghaffari, the nursing home’s administrator.

The settlement resolves allegations that Buena Vista submitted false Medicaid claims.

The government alleged Buena Vista failed to provide adequate care to its frail and elderly patients and therefore wasn’t entitled to claim and receive reimbursement from Medicaid.

Dalisa Wright, a former employee of Ali Ghaffari, had filed the allegations under the whistleblower provisions of the False Claims Act.
