The Associated Press

ALBUQUERQUE — New Mexico’s military bases will receive around $87 million from the stimulus bill for upgrades.

The Department of Defense says $28.7 million is headed to Kirtland Air Force Base for 59 projects.

Cannon Air Force Base will receive $26.4 million, including $12 million for the construction of a child development center and $14.4 million for 16 other projects.

Holloman Air Force Base can anticipate $21 million for eight projects and White Sands Missile Range will receive $11.2 million for 14 projects.

The bases can compete for $850 million set aside by the DOD for additional upgrades.

Colleges and businesses can also seek $300 million in grants for energy-related research and development.
