Assistant jail administrator resigns

Curry County is looking for a new assistant adminstrator for its jail.

County Manager Lance Pyle confirmed Wednesday that Audrey Barriga resigned effective March 11 as assistant detention center administrator.

Barriga could not be reached for comment.

Barriga, a former employee of the Eddy County Detention Center, was hired in March 2006. She was serving as interim jail adminstrator when eight inmates escaped Aug. 24.

All but one inmate — Edward Salas, a 24-year-old convicted child killer — have been recaptured.

Pyle said the jail's newly hired classification and investigation specialist, Brian Germany, has been appointed interim assistant until the position is filled.

“I wish (Audrey Barriga) the best of luck in her future endeavors,” Pyle said Wednesday.

Pyle said applications for the position will be accepted through March 27.
