What does your job entail?: Armijo sends Western Union money transfers, cashes checks, processes and takes payments on utility bills and serves as a cashier or sacker as needed. “Whatever they need me to do.”

What is a typical day like for you?: Armijo arrives in the morning and cleans up her area before she starts, and people come by. Armijo may work with Western Union checks, college students receiving money from their parents and people paying bills. She helps sack purchases or work as a cashier when her co-workers need assistance.

Why did you choose this job?: Before I worked here, I worked at La Tienda, so I was really familiar with the grocery business. I was pregnant at the time when the store closed, so I didn’t go back right away. I waited until he was born, a few months old. And I just came here first.

What training is needed for this job?: “There’s a lot of rules involved.” Armijo received on-the-job training.

What do you enjoy most about your job?: Armijo most enjoys being able to help customers who don’t know how to do what they need to do.
