National art winner
Kristen Wagner just received a letter of recognition from Gov. Bill Richardson congratulating her on placing third at the national level of an international aviation art contest. At the state level, several Portales Junior High students swept the contest, and their work was sent to Washington, D.C. Art instructor Jon Birdsong said many of his students have been recognized at the state level over the years, but Wagner is the first to win at the national level.
