Report shows New Mexico making progress on high school reforms

New Mexico is making progress in its effort to better align high school policies with college and the workforce, a report released Thursday by the education nonprofit Achieve shows.

The report, Closing the Expectations Gap, shows that New Mexico has already aligned high school graduation requirements with college and career expectations, and is making progress in other key areas.

The report notes that New Mexico is in the process of establishing a college and career-ready testing system. High school juniors will be required to take the test in the 2010-11 school year.

Aligning high school academic standards with college and workforce expectations and developing a data system to track student progress from preschool through college are New Mexico changes anticipated next year, according to the report.
