A winter weather advisory will be issued between 11 p.m. tonight until 5 p.m. Tuesday for snowfall along and behind a strong cold front pushes through eastern New Mexico, according to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque.
Confidence is moderate that amounts in the plains will range from 2 inches to 4 inches, tapering to 1 inches to 3 inches toward the Texas border.
Accumulations on eastern sections of Interstate 40 will be modest, strong winds will reduce visibility in blowing snow. Heavier amounts of 2 inches to 5 inches are expected in Lincoln County with locally higher amounts possible in the Capitan and Sacramento mountains.
