Freedom New Mexico: Liliana Castillo Matt Hillsman, curator of the Blackwater Draw Museum, said Columbian mammoths roamed the Eastern New Mexico plains up to 10,000 years ago. A model of a older bull Columbian mammoth was built by students in the 1960’s.
