Altrusa plans holiday fundraiser
Deck the ... tables ... with bows of holly.
Altrusa International Inc. of Portales has scheduled the 11th annual Holiday Happenings table decoration display, luncheon and style show for Dec. 6. The event, Altrusa’s major fundraiser, has provided funds for Roosevelt General Hospital, playground equipment, school band instruments and more.
“One of the things that we do is support our community and contribute to our community,” said Dannah Brown, the Altrusa member in charge of tickets and tables.
Holiday Happenings committee chairwoman Cindy Huffman said Altrusa won’t decide what to do with this year’s funds until after the event.
Tickets cost $25 each or $150 for a table of eight.
If table buyers decorate their own table, they get all eight seats. If they have someone else embelish the dining setting, the decorater receives two of the seats.
Huffman said her favorite part of Holiday Happenings is seeing the 67 Christmas-themed tables all decorated differently.
“The uniqueness, the elegance, is just beautiful,” she said.
The food is to be a holiday meal including pork loin catered by Sodexho, the university’s food service provider. Dillard’s is scheduled to put on a fashion show after lunch.
“There will be men’s and women’s clothing, and there will be some children,” Huffman said.
In the past, the silent auction has featured toys, art, furniture and jewelry. Dillard’s has provided some of the items.
Huffman also plans to give away door prizes.
