Samplings of recent calls received by Clovis-area law enforcement officers, according to reports:

About noon Oct. 20 an officer responded to a business in the 600 block of Rencher Street for a fraud report.

A clerk said a man gave her a counterfeit $50 bill as part of a payment to bond his wife out of jail.

The clerk said when she contacted the man he told her he had been given the bill as change and did not realize it was counterfeit.

About 3 p.m. Oct. 20 an officer responded to a business in the 3000 block of Prince Street for an embezzlement report.

The store’s loss prevention manager told the officer an investigation revealed since June an employee had been selling merchandise to customers but only ringing up a small portion of it and pocketing the remainder of the money.

The store investigator showed the officer documentation of several incidents where the suspect sold and loaded more items into customer vehicles than he rang up on the register and estimated the value of the missing items around $16,000.

The officer noted intent to obtain a warrant for embezzlement.

About 7 p.m. Oct. 20 an officer stopped a vehicle with an expired license plate in the area of 10th and Mitchell Streets.

The officer noted he had seen the vehicle leave a residence associated with suspected narcotics activity.

The driver bumped the curb as he pulled over. The officer noted he smelled of alcohol, appeared lethargic, and when he got out of the vehicle, his pants were unzipped.

The officer performed field sobriety tests on the man, which he failed. He was arrested.

A check of the 49-year-old’s identification revealed he had three DWIs on his driving record.

Around 8 p.m. Oct. 20 an officer on patrol conducted a traffic stop in the area of 14th and Merriweather for a vehicle that did not signal a turn.

The officer noted he had seen the vehicle at a residence associated with suspected narcotics activity and had seen the passenger enter and leave the residence.

The passenger gave the officer consent to search him and the officer found crack cocaine in his breast pocket.

The 63-year-old man was arrested.
