NAACP to hold conference in Clovis

The New Mexico NAACP will hold its state conference Friday with a theme on voting, according to State Chapter President Sam Bone.

Held at the Mabry Inn in Clovis, the conference includes workshops discussing the issues raised during the presidential campaign, he said.

The State National Association for the Advancement of Colored People does not endorse candidates, he said.

“What we do is discuss the issues that each candidates are providing so that hopefully we’ll vote intelligently,” he said.

Experts will also conduct work shops regarding social security, legal redress, environmental justice and health and wellness, he said.

Youth workshops will also be available, Bone said.

NAACP Clovis Chapter President Selmus Price said he expects between 50 to 75 people to attend the conference.

There are about 1,200 NAACP members statewide and about 90 in the Clovis chapter.

A $10 registration fee is required to attend the workshops.

The registration fee for youths is $2.
