Groups seeking funds for city welcome signs

The Clovis/Curry County Chamber of Commerce and the Clovis Rotary Club are trying to raise $7,000 for a beautification project for the city.

The project would erect welcome signs on the four main entry ways into the city.

“This is a community-wide project that will enhance the entrance into the city on all four sides,” said chamber of commerce Executive Director Ernie Kos.

The project is expected to cost $25,000. About $3,000 has been raised or pledged by local civic clubs, individuals and businesses and $15,000 in materials and labor has been pledged by business owners, according to a press release from the chamber of commerce.

Once the money is raised, Kos said it will take approximately 30 days to build the signs.

Placed on a 14-foot long concrete base, the signs are approximately 11 feet long by 4 1/2 feet tall and will be located along U.S. Highway 70 and U.S. Highway 60/84, according to the release.

Printed on the signs is the message: Welcome to Clovis — A community for family, according to the release.

A plaque listing the names of donors will be placed on the back of every sign, according to the release.

The city will maintain the signs.
