Cannon auto show — 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday. The 2008 Cannon Thunder Auto show will be at held at Doc Stewart Park. This free event is open to the public. For registration information contact the Community Center at 784-6381.
Skate park closed — The skate park located in Doc Stewart Park is off limits due to ongoing construction of the park. Once completed a date for the grand opening will be announced. Information: 784-2773.
Chavez Manor road closures — An asbestos abatement project in the Chavez Manor housing area is currently underway. Due to construction in the area, the following streets will be closed to non-related pedestrian and POV traffic until further notice:
• New Mexico Street at Ranchvale Road (NM 311) to Oklahoma Ct.
• Alabama Street at Ranchvale Road.
• Iowa Street is closed to thru traffic, however access is open to the east side of Florida Loop (Units 7500-7519).
Eastern New Mexico University Military Appreciation Day — 6 p.m., Sept. 27, Greyhound Football Stadium. Active duty, retired military and families with military IDs get into football game at no charge. The stadium is located midway between Clovis and Portales on Hwy. 70. New post office hours — Effective Sept. 29 the post office will be from open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Information: 789-2410.
Bowl-a-Thon — A group at Cannon Air Force Base plans to hold a bowl-a-thon as a fundraiser raise money for a dedication to Career Field, Air Force Specialty Code 1C0X2.
Teams will raise money through pledges.
The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 3 at the base bowling alley.

Family class — The base chapel is sponsoring the course: “Value Packed Parenting — Raising Rock-Solid Kids in a Pleasure-Driven World.” The course is part of the chapel’s Building Strong Families Program.
The seven-session class will be taught at the Chapel and offered two days a week for seven weeks beginning Oct. 5. Participants can attend either Wednesday from 6:15 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. or Friday from noon to 1 p.m. The course is a faith-based parenting course featuring the work of Dr. Kevin Leman.
