Dodgers' executive has Portales ties

Jill Bukowski e-mails to report a former Portales High School student is working for the Los Angeles Dodgers as assistant general manager of scouting.

Here’s a bio on Logan White, from a Dodgers’ Web site:

Google searches reveal White’s first draft selection as a scouting director was Dodgers’ first baseman James Loney, who today leads the team in runs batted in.

Also, White interviewed for the Houston Astros’ general manager job last September before the Astros hired former Phillies GM Ed Wade.

And White was a minor league pitcher in the Seattle Mariners’ organization from 1984 to 1987.

He played baseball at Western New Mexico University and was an academic all-American when he graduated in 1984.

Getting out of Portales and into Dora is a little more of a challenge these days. Road construction is going on at 18th Street and Avenue D, as well as on state highway 206 near Dora.
