Samplings of recent calls received by Clovis-area law enforcement officers, according to reports:

About midnight July 5 an officer responded to a home in the 700 block of Axtell for a battery report.

A woman said she was at a residence with some friends when a female she knew came in and started arguing with her.

She said the female slapped her across the face and when she tried to get away the suspect kicked her in the buttocks.

Officers were unable to locate the suspect.

About 4 a.m. July 5 an officer responded to a residence in the 900 block of Gamma for an arson report.

Firefighters extinguished a blaze in the residence.

Fire officials told the officer it was the third fire that has occurred in the unoccupied residence and they believed it to be an arson case.

Around 6 p.m. July 5 an officer responded to a residence in the 500 block of Reid for a report of a battery that occurred at a business in the 1400 block of Seventh Street.

A woman said she was in a store shopping and began having problems with an employee there.

When she went to pay for her purchases, she said the clerk knocked the bag on the floor and struck her in the head.

Another employee witnessed the incident and provided the officer surveillance footage.

The officer also discovered the battery victim had an outstanding traffic warrant and arrested her.

About 7 p.m. July 6 an officer responded to a report of breaking and entering at a residence in the 800 block of Prince Street.

A 17-year-old girl said her former boyfriend kicked in the door and entered the home with two other males, yelling at her and swinging his fist.

The officer noted the doorknob was broken and laying on the ground.

The officer could not locate the suspects.

Around 8 p.m. July 6 an officer responded to a report of a hit and run in the area of Seventh and Norris Streets.

A witness said he saw a vehicle try to turn east on Seventh Street at a high rate of speed, lose control and hit a fence.

He said the driver then backed out and left the scene.

The witness followed the vehicle to a parking lot and contacted police.

The driver was cited for careless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to give notice of an accident.

Damage to the fence was estimated to be more than $500.
