ENMU gets provisional qualifier

ABILENE, Texas — Eastern New Mexico University earned a fourth provisional qualifier to NCAA Division II national competition on Thursday when the men’s 400 relay team of freshman Josh Browning, sophomore J.T. Thompson, freshman Brian Smith and junior Tim Hamett ran a time of 41.32 seconds for third place in Abilene Christian’s Twilight Open.

They join senior Kyle Harris in men’s triple jump, sophomore Deidra Brown in women’s javelin and sophomore Steven Aragon in men’s javelin as provisional qualifiers.

The team “provisional” means they haven’t met the automatic qualifying standard, but could be selected for the national meet May 22-24 in Walnut, Calif. Brown has the best chance of going, as she is ranked 19th in NCAA Division II.
