Creative Living features decorating with candles

Information on decorating with candles, window fashions and cooking “en concert” will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” at noon Tuesday and at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Olga Puzas, senior regional vice president with PartyLite Gifts, Inc. in Plymouth, Mass., says that candles are an easy, affordable way to decorate for weddings, plus they make fabulous gifts and create special memories for everyone involved.

Joe Jankoski, Hunter-Douglas Window Fashions in Upper Saddle River, N.J., will show samples of window toppers to achieve what he calls an “over-the-top” look.

Joan Toole, cookbook author, will talk about how to entertain elegantly with ease. Her cookbook features recipes for the heart and soul, and she’ll show what she means by cooking “en concert.” She lives in The Villages, Fla.

Information on jewelry layering, flatlock stitching and coverstitching will be the featured topics at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday and at noon Thursday.

Jacqueline Davis, independent representative for Silpada Designs, will talk about semi-precious stones, oxidation, jewelry cleaning, and how to layer jewelry for multiple “looks.” Davis lives in Clovis.

Vivian Lavinskas is the manager of Consumer Affairs for Singer Sewing Co. in Lavergne, Tenn. She will explain that flatlock stitching is usually sewn using a 3-thread serger. She’ll demonstrate how you can easily reproduce this popular effect using the blindhem and other stitches built in to most sewing machines.

Sewing instructor Nancy Lovett will demonstrate how to do hems with coverstitching, which resembles those you see in ready-made garments. Lovett represents Ann Silva’s Bernina Sewing Center in Albuquerque.

Faux Fried Chicken

Crispy, quick, tender and easy as 1, 2, 3, this chicken can satisfy your hunger for “good ole” fried chicken without the guilt.

8 skinless chicken breast fillets (1 1/2 to 2 pounds)

1/2 cup seasoned bread crumbs

1 Tbsp. olive oil

Rinse the chicken and pat dry. Place in a plastic bag with the bread crumbs, shaking to coat. Preheat a heavy skillet over medium-high heat. Spray with nonstick vegetable cooking spray. Add the olive oil. Cook the chicken four pieces at a time in prepared skillet until brown on both sides, turning once. Reduce heat to low. Add all of the chicken to the skillet. Simmer covered for 10 minutes or until tender and cooked through. Keep warm until serving time.
