Local Roundup: Base community meetings planned

A new program called Friends of Cannon has been created by Col. Timothy Leahy, commander of the 27th Special Operations Wing at Cannon Air Force Base.

The first Friday of each month the public and military personnel a Dutch-treat meal and meeting from 5-8 p.m. at the Landing at CAFB. Leahy and his staff will give the community updated information and answer questions. Community members will be able to announce events as well.

The first event is Friday. Visitors should use the west gate.

To participate, community members must fill out a form that can be found at Clovis and Portales city halls or the Cannon Visitor Center. A background will be done and once that is completed an individual will be added to a permanent list for the event.

Local candidate forum announced

The Clovis/Curry County Chapters of the National Association of Colored People and the League of United Latin American Citizens are sponsoring a public forum Feb. 11 for candidates in the March 4 municipal election.

All candidates running for the position of mayor and city commissioner have been asked to participate.

The forum will be held from 6-8 p.m. at the North Annex of the Clovis-Carver Public Library, 701 N. Main St.
