Blood drive planned
United Blood Services will hold a blood drive from 9:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Tuesday at the Portales National Bank, 109 E. Second, Portales.

Lions Jamboree auditions set
The Floyd Lions Club Jamboree will hold auditions for the 2008 show at 2 p.m. Jan. 27 in the Old Gym at Floyd School, according to a press release.
Those auditioning should have two traditional Country and Western or gospel songs prepared and know the words to the songs and the key in which they will be singing them. Extra copies of the words and chords are helpful, according to organizers.
The jamboree organizers will also be auditioning for special acts.

Agape Fellowship celebrates anniversary
Agape Fellowship Church will celebrate its 16th anniversary Jan. 25-27, according to a press release.
Evangelist Alvin Tolliver will be preaching each evening at 7 p.m. at the church located at 2012 S. Ave. D in Portales. Everyone is invited.

Democratic Women to meet
The Roosevelt Democratic Women will meet at noon Monday at the conference room at Roosevelt General Hospital, according to a press release.
Dolores Penrod will talk about the race for New Mexico’s 3rd U.S. Congressional seat.
All Democrats are invited. Get a tray in the cafeteria if you wish and bring it into the conference room.
La Escalera meets Monday
La Escalera Art Guild will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Calvary Baptist Church, according to a press release. Those attending are asked to enter the building from the east side.
Jean Green, from Muleshoe, will present the program. Guests are welcome.
Driver safety program planned
A driver safety program, cosponsored as a community service by the local AARP chapter and Community Services Center, will be held Feb. 19-20 at the center.
The program is a refresher course for those age 50 and up to refine skills and develop safe driving habits, according to a news release.
Rules of the road in adverse conditions as well as traffic hazards and the effects of aging and medication on the driver will be covered.
AARP organizers say that in addition to improving driving skills, seniors may also become eligible for discounts on auto insurance after taking the course.
Pre-registration is required as class size is limited. To register, send your name, address, home phone and a check for $10 to AARP to coordinator George Lees, 1400 Hillcrest Drive, Clovis, NM 88101. Checks are refundable if unable to attend.
