• The Eastern New Mexico University Greyhound football team had 36 members vying for positions on a team bound for Mexico City to play in the Aztec Bowl Dec. 19. Cold weather was making the workouts difficult.

• An ad for Cozy Corner Cafe was touting their steaks and advertised coffee for a nickel.

• In the By The Way column it was noted than a windstorm had taken down many of the downtown decorations. It seems local residents had taken many of them home and the column pleaded with folks to bring them back.
