Charges filed against Curry County deputy

Assault and disorderly conduct charges were filed Thursday afternoon against a Curry County Sheriff’s deputy placed on paid administrative leave, according to court records.

A woman and her husband said Deputy Larry Garrison verbally assaulted them on Oct. 7, cursing and shouting at them over a car he was attempting to purchase, according to a criminal complaint filed in Clovis Municipal Court.

Garrison was placed on leave pending a criminal investigation conducted by police and an administrative investigation conducted by the sheriff’s department, county officials said.

If convicted of the charges, petty misdemeanors, Garrison could face up to 90 days in jail and or a $500 fine, according to court documents.

He is required to appear before a municipal judge in the next two weeks, court officials said.

Sheriff Matt Murray said Friday, Garrison remains on paid administrative leave and the administrative investigation is ongoing.

Murray said he could not comment on the charges against Garrison.

Garrison declined to comment when contacted Friday.
