A suicidal 47-year-old Curry County man was placed in protective custody Friday morning after he threatened to shoot police officers.
City, county and state law enforcement officers and Clovis’ mobile command unit were deployed to the scene before the situation ended without incident, according to Curry County Sheriff Matt Murray.
The man was transported to the hospital for evaluation.
Murray said 911 dispatchers received a call from the man, who said he had taken an overdose of pills around 10:30 a.m.
The man continued a dialog with dispatchers as officers were en route to his home at 2298 Curry Road P and told the dispatcher he would “shoot any officers that came on the porch,” and ceased communication, Murray said.
Because of the threat, officers deployed the city’s mobile command vehicle to the area and called for additional support, Murray said.
Sheriff’s investigator Waldo Casarez was able to contact the man and develop a rapport with him, then coax him out of the residence without incident, Murray said.
