ADA, Okla. — East Central’s Danielle Clark scored on a header off a corner kick early in the second half on Sunday, giving the Lady Tigers a 2-1 win over Eastern New Mexico University in a Lone Star Conference women’s soccer match.
The loss was the third in four outings for ENMU (8-5, 2-3 LSC) on the heels of a school-record seven-match winning streak.
East Central (6-6-2, 3-2) took the lead less than two minutes into the contest when Ashleigh Peete headed in a crossing pass from Shannon McKim. The Zias tied the score with 17:17 elapsed as freshman forward Hannah Dozier converted her eighth goal of the season — and fourth in the last five games — from about 13 yards out on a through pass from freshman defender Justine Tydings.
ENMU had the upper hand for a good share of the clash, leading the Lady Tigers 10-7 in shots on goal and collecting eight corner kicks — six in the second half — to two for East Central.
The Zias return home to face conference-leading Central Oklahoma, ranked No. 22 in NCAA Division II, in a 3 p.m. start on Friday at the ENMU pitch.
