Hounds finish second in Angelo meet

SAN ANGELO, Texas — Senior Nimrod Lelei finished third in a field of 50 runners, leading the Eastern New Mexico University men’s cross country team to a second-place finish in Angelo State’s Blue & Gold cross country meet on Tuesday.

Lelei completed the five-mile course in a time of 27 minutes, 25 seconds, leading four Greyhounds in the top 14. Senior Kennedy Baiywo was next for the Hounds, finishing 10th in 28:14.

Tarleton State swept both team titles, scoring 33 points to 45 for ENMU in five-team men’s competition and finishing with 19 points to 56 for runnerup West Texas A&M in the women’s event.

The ENMU women were led by freshman Krystal Becenti, who finished 13th in 21:10 over five kilometers. The Zias were sixth in the seven-team field with 130 points.

Tarleton State’s Rey Hinojosa was the men’s individual winner in 26:50. Winrose Karunde, who ran unattached, took the women’s race in 17:39.

ENMU, which had not competed since the Lobo Invitational at the University of New Mexico on Sept. 8, returns to action on Oct. 20 in the Lone Star Conference meet at Greenville, Texas.
